IPMA® - International Project Management Association

IPMA® – International Project Management Association
VZPM – Verein zur Zertifizierung im Projektmanagement (Association de certification en gestion de projet)

IPMA® is the world’s leading project management association, founded in 1965. The 70 national member associations cooperate to help project and program managers ensure the success of projects and companies.
Originally created as an international network for the exchange of project management experience called INTERNET (INTERnational NETwork), the organization grew in the 1970s to become a worldwide organization, organizing courses and events.
In 1996, the organization was renamed IPMA® (International Project Management Association) and began its certification activities.

The VZPM is the only organization authorized to organize certification and issue the IPMA® certificate, which is valid worldwide.

History, description of the partnership

Organizations have to carry out more complex transformations, more frequently, and more quickly.

The Portfolio / Program / Project management model known as P3O equips organizations with the structures, tools and techniques they need to ensure they focus on the right programs and projects and deliver them consistently across the organization.

A permanent P3O model supports the governance of programs and projects in line with the organization’s mission, vision, and values. It can :

  • Validate change strategy: “Are we making the right investment choices?” i.e. the right programs and projects to implement the company’s strategy.
  • Validate the value of change: “Are we getting the expected benefits from the projects and programs we are running?”
  • Verify the quality of change execution: “Are we doing things right?” check that projects and programs use Good Practice processes, methods and tools.

P3O management makes it possible to control costs and deadlines, while meeting the imperatives of quality deliverables and customer satisfaction.

IPMA offers know-how, products and services for the benefit of individuals, projects and organizations in the public, private and community sectors.

In 2011, Tomorrow chose IPMA® as its main P3O management standard, for two main reasons:

  • The IPMA® standard presents a comprehensive inventory of the competencies an individual must possess or develop to successfully master all the projects, programs or portfolios they are called upon to manage. The skills required are based on :
    • Knowledge
    • Know-how
    • Ability
  • but also the use of these skills in the right way at the right time.
  • IPMA® certifications are internationally recognized, proving competence in project, program and portfolio management.

With our experts in the P30 practice, we wanted to develop and strengthen collaboration around project management, structure our know-how and share best practices based on IPMA® standards.

In 2001, we were supported by an external service provider. In 2019, we developed a network of in-house trainers/coaches and an IPMA® training and certification program to develop and validate our employees’ technical, behavioral and contextual skills.

This has enabled us to raise the level of our services:

  • Based on a proven, pragmatic P3O approach (methodology, templates and tools)
  • And to develop a common culture and language of PROJECT MANAGEMENT based on the IPMA® framework.

N.

I have 25 years of experience in leading international projects and managing organizational transformation.

Today, I use my P3O-PMO expertise (Waterfall and Agile) and my mastery of change management not only to serve Tomorrow by TW's customers, but also within our own organization.

Since 2019, I have been the contact person for IPMA and VZPM. I had the pleasure of training 73 employees and seeing them pass the IPMA® certification exam.

Every year, I have the pleasure of talking to many colleagues, sharing my experiences, illustrating them with anecdotes and listening to them. These training programs are also good times to spend together, sharing our rich and varied experiences.

I also give these training courses to our customers, either for one-off acculturation or to support them over the longer term in developing their skills and implementing methodologies and tools.

I had the opportunity to take part in and obtain the IPMA-D certification.

It's a demanding course, requiring a certain amount of time to assimilate all the different concepts involved in project management. The course provides an exhaustive overview of the different phases of a project, and proposes a methodology and tools adapted to managing a project as a whole.

The experiences and anecdotes also discussed during the course are interesting in the sense that we get an insight into how a project unfolds.

During one of my own projects, I had the opportunity to use some of the tools that were made available to me, particularly when it came to a phase of the project that I'd never had to carry out before. It was in this context that I remembered the IPMA training and how I could approach this phase with peace of mind.
